Declutter Your Car for the Holidays!

We can spend a lot of time in our cars, even if we are not big commuters, just popping to the shops, running kids about to school, sports events, they all add up. Apparently the average American spends 600 hours each year in their car. So it is understandable how easy your car becomes cluttered. Like your home, your car is much more pleasurable to drive when it is clutter free. So as the holiday period is about to start I thought I should declutter my car so it is pleasant space to travel in on our way down to the Tiny home. My car is not too bad as I do this fairly regularly.

Here are some before pics:

This is how I got started!

In order to organise and declutter my car, I first, took everything out and began by removing all of the obvious trash/rubbish. I found a single arm from sunglasses, wrappers, car park ticket, old receipts amongst other items. It is handy to use leftover grocery bags as trash bags to keep your trash in one space and regularly throw that out. These are all the items I took out of my car…

I had all sorts in there … golf balls, 2 umbrellas, Pilates socks, dog lead, numerous pens, masks to name a few, well you can see in the pic. Some items I will always keep in the car but some need to be culled! So next I cleaned the car, vacuumed carpets and seats then wiped down the dash and steering wheel etc. It is a good feeling to have a clean tidy car!

Then to place items necessary back into the car, I tested the pens put two working pens into glove compartment along with the car manual, charger, stereo remote, sunglasses, first aid kit and a lippy. (you just never know when you may need a lippy). I always have a dog lead in the car not only because I have dogs but you never know when you may come across a stray dog, so that went back into the side pocket along with one umbrella but the golf balls were delegated into the garage with my clubs. After all I am very unlikely to hit a golf ball without a golf club!!! My jumper leads went back into the car under the car seat.

Any items that did not need to be in the car at this current time I put away in the most suitable place for them, it is amazing how little there is once you have got rid of the rubbish.

So job done for this holiday I have cleaned out of the car. I hope this inspires you to do the same, its a good feeling!

Merry Christmas, happy holidays and see you in 2023.
